Get Altium

Altium Designer is a powerful, industry-leading PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design software used by the Electronics team at RIT Racing to create and develop complex circuit boards for the car’s electrical systems.


To get a free student license and download Altium, follow these steps:

  1. Follow this link: https://education.altium.com/

  2. Click Enroll for Free and sign up with your school email (e.g., abc1234@rit.edu — do not use @g.rit.edu). You will need to verify your academic status by filling out some information when prompted.

  3. After signing up, you can download and install Altium Designer.

  4. You should receive an email through which you can activate your account (it may take a little while to arrive).

  5. On the downloads page, you can get the latest version of Altium Designer:

  6. After downloading, open the setup.exe file and follow the installation steps. You will be asked to sign in and select features. Check all the boxes to ensure full functionality:

  7. Choose a location in your file system to install the software and documents. You can leave it as the default location.

  8. Once installation is complete, sign in to your Altium account.

  9. Activate your license.

You now have Altium Designer installed and ready to use with your student license.
